BAMT’s Musical Theatre course is one of Australia’s most vital courses for young performers seeking to enter a career in the entertainment industry.
The course is a one-year intensive that provides training alongside Australia's best musical theatre teachers and practitioners as well as industry professionals from around the world. It provides a strong grounding in acting and audition technique, dance skills and vocal technique as well as the history of musical theatre. It also seeks to make students industry-ready through a range of practical and hands on classes built around rehearsal and performance etiquette and practice.
BAMT's Musical Theatre Course provides students training a number of skills and disciplines, including:
Audition Preparation & Repertoire
Health & Nutrition
Fitness & Physical Conditioning
Students are also given opportunity to see major theatre productions and engage in Q&A sessions with professionals,
plus the opportunity to meet, network and work with a range of key industry professionals, agents and casting directors from across Australia and overseas.
Throughout the year, students engage in a number of public showings and performance presentations.
While the base course is non-accredited, students may elect to attain a Certificate or Diploma qualification in accompaniment to their training at BAMT through Trinity College London.
1 year full time
Applicants must be aged 16+ at the time of commencement. Entry is via a 3 step process of written application, skills assessment and callback. BAMT's Full Time Course runs out of the Hayward Street Theatre, located at 57 Hayward St, Stafford in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
The Musical Theatre Course costs $10,500 per year.
Trinity College London qualification incurs additional costs
A $1,000 enrolment processing fee is paid at time of acceptance.
BAMT offers a number of payment arrangement options for the remainder of the course fees which bring weekly payments to as little as $100/wk.
Fees are subject to annual review.
Students who complete BAMT’s Musical Theatre course are eligible to gain entry into BAMT’s Advance Musical Theatre course and the prestigious Performance Course. Many BAMT graduates also go on to further studies at University level performing arts courses such as Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), while others enter the industry upon graduation.
BAMT provides flexible and personalized training with a view to building each student’s skill base across all disciplines of musical theatre. We believe that the best training for success in the entertainment industry should be highly practical and unencumbered by written assignments and exams, which is why the base course remains non-accredited, to ensure maximum time is spent on building skills that matter. Students enjoy the option of electing to attain diploma qualifications in accompaniment to their BAMT training through Trinity College London. As opposed to qualifications that can be attained through VET at other institutions which are only recognised in Australia, qualifications attained at BAMT through Trinity College London are internationally recognised, which opens a doorway for our students to work on stages across the globe.
BAMT is the only training institution in Australia housed within a major performing arts venue (Hayward Street Theatre), which is also home to production companies like AVT LIVE, Arenavent Theatrical and Quid Pro Co, and renowned talent agency, Dare Artist Management. Students are afforded the opportunity to train in the same venue where some of Australia's biggest musical theatre stars are rehearsing, performing and managing their career, and the students regularly benefit from a range of formal and informal encounters with these luminaries.
While training at BAMT, students are represented through Dare Artist Management, which means they can be put forward for auditions for film, television and theatre projects. Part of the training at BAMT provides students with guidance in how to navigate external auditions, negotiations with agents and conduct themselves in a professional setting.
BAMT's Musical Theatre Course provides students with a doorway into the industry and with the skills required to succeed and thrive.
