Featuring the students of BAMT's Musical Theatre course including

After years of writing and various workshops, it's been a privilege to work every day with this incredible cast of students from BAMT, bringing the work to its first complete full draft! Developing a new musical is a unique adventure and the first full presentation is always a special milestone in it's journey to stage
This presentation is the result of a co-development between BAMT & Old Fashioned Productions. A group of disconnected teenagers stumble upon a hidden ‘Oasis’ on the grounds of their school. Here the pure land unconsciously sends a wave of positive change through each of them. When they discover the towns plan to destroy the land to build a new gas mine, each student is forced to overcome their own destructive view of themselves and decide to stand and fight for something they believe in.
Thank-you for coming tonight, and I hope you enjoy THE OASIS.

We have always had the notion that our students could be a most useful resource to a composer interested in developing their work, but have never quite been able to make the stars align to make a workshops development happen at BAMT. A chance conversation with my old friend Brad McCaw at the end of last year led us to this moment, where our students have benefited from three weeks of working with one of Australia's most prolific composers, and Brad has benefited from having access to their creativity in the development of his musical, THE OASIS.
I am so proud of what the students have achieved, especially given the fact that they are just at the beginning of their training. Being a part of a development is taxing, and they have handled themselves with grace and poise and come up with a final piece that we all feel is something we can be very proud of.
Thank-you to Brad for sharing his creativity and his time with our students, and to Emma Erdis and Dennett Hudson who were also on hand to offer their musical support.
We always say that BAMT is a place of great beginnings and I'm sure you will agree that what is on display in this production is the beginning of some remarkable careers in the entertainment industry.
Thank-you for coming to support the work that our students have helped to develop over the last three weeks. I hope you enjoy THE OASIS!
